Just in case you haven’t seen all the extra pink stuff on sale lately, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I’m a bit late, but as “Pink Haired Girl” I feel I’d be doing the color pink an injustice if I didn’t say something about breast cancer and the importance of getting your boobies checked.<\/p>\n
Men — Don’t tune me out. <\/strong> It is rumored that if you are a woman (or man) under the age of 35, it is somehow impossible to get breast cancer and getting routine exams isn’t necessary.<\/p>\n This is absolutely false. Although the younger you are lowers your risk … there is still risk. And a risk is a risk, yes? <\/strong><\/p>\n Every person, regardless of age and gender, should do monthly self-exams… and get checked out either by mammogram or physician exam once a year.<\/p>\n On a personal note: Since I know that breast cancer runs in my family’s history… I have had breast exams with my physician once a year and performed monthly self-exams since age 16. It is important to know your family history and get used to what is normal for you so if something abnormal shows up, you’ll know!<\/em><\/p>\n At some point in your life, breast cancer will affect your life.
