Takesy-Backsies

I have been watching a little bit of the NBC hoopla over Jay Leno/Conan O’Brien.

Apparently their Leno experiment epically failed in affiliate ratings and advertiser interests and it was cancelled. His last show will air before the Winter Olympics begin.

Leno is still a popular guy… just not at 9pm.

So now, NBC wants Leno and O’Brien to share the Tonight Show time slot (after local news)—with Leno on for 30 minutes and O’Brien following Leno with an hour show. There’s some speculation that O’Brien will jump ship to FOX—who has always wanted to compete with the other networks with own tonight show.

Negotiations are still in the works but NBC has done nothing but make bad choices from the beginning (dating back to giving Leno a timeline). I am not optimistic that this will end with all parties feeling good.

All of this got me thinking about my theme for 2010: DREAM BIG!

The Tonight Show was Conan O’Brien’s dream. For 15+ years, O’Brien was the late show host and waited in the wings for the last 5 years for Leno to step down and pass the reigns to him.

And now, it looks as though he may lose it all.

Personally, I am really not upset about it.
I don’t know these people.

I just can’t help but feel for Conan O’Brien on this one (and even for Leno for even having to give up his dream to begin with).

How would you feel if you were handed your dream, only to see it taken away 5 months later?

“But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

  1. Well, I think I could handle it a little better than I could have years ago. Still, I know I’d be TICKED when it happened. I’d know God was in control and He handles all things but I’d still be torked. :)

  2. Honestly, at this point in my life…I’d probably be crushed. My life has been full of uncertainty for over a year now. I’d probably get over it in time, but if we’re being honest – and I am – I’d be crushed.
