this thing called “HEAVEN”

But when I get where I’m going
And I see my Maker’s face
I’ll stand forever in the light
Of His amazing grace

Yeah when I get where I’m going
There’ll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I’ll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah when I get where I’m going
Don’t cry for me down here

For whatever reason, I have had my mind on this thing called “HEAVEN” over the last few days. I just got an audio book that I am super excited to listen to called, “HEAVEN” by Randy Alcorn. Have any of you read it? I’ve only listened to the first 10 minutes or so but I’ve already been challenged. Based on my personal journey as a Christian I know I’ve failed to explore the Bible’s teaching of this place. I have not given our eternal dwelling place deserving attention.

How about you?

I am no theologian but I am on a mission to learn more about Heaven. Here are a few questions for open discussion. I thought it would be interesting to see everyone’s perspective. Just chime in if you have ANY thoughts at all.

  1. What do you think Heaven will be like?
    • a never-ending church service?
  2. Are you looking forward to Heaven?
    • or are you fearful?
  3. Where do you think Heaven is?
    • somewhere here on earth? up in the sky?
  4. Do you think will we be ourselves?
    • Will we know each other as we are now?
  5. Any other thoughts?

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:1-3

It’s funny. I listen to John Lennon’s “Imagine” and I think that here’s a song that’s anti-God and anti-religion, and yet in some strange irony it describes heaven exactly.

I hate this world, Crystal. I hate it so much. I can’t turn around without seeing so much evil, so much pain. And yet, there is enough beauty left to sustain me. It rests in people like you. I think that’s why God told us to hang together so tight at the end. We create His Kingdom in our relationships with each other. He said, “The Kingdom of heaven is among you.”

Then, after we create it with each other in the midst of this hell, He will bring it in the physical. And man, will He bring it. Every knee will bow.

    And finally, at last, PEACE.

    See you then.
