Empty Me

Empty me of the selfishness inside
Every vain ambition and the poison of my pride
And any foolish thing my heart holds to
Lord empty me of me so I can be filled with You.
Chris Sligh “Empty Me”

yeah he was on American Idol — but that’s not the point. I honestly don’t listen to much Christian radio except for when I am getting ready in the morning; in between my shower and blow-drying my hair. I just happen to like the KLOVE morning show.

So, this song, “Emtpy Me” has been speaking to me since its been on rotation the last couple of weeks. If there’s anything that God continues to beat me over the head about – it is laying down my pride.

The eyes of the arrogant man will be humbled
and the pride of men brought low;
the LORD alone will be exalted in that day. Isaiah 2:11

What does God use to show you where you need to get a clue? Apparently He uses former Idol contestants with me.

  1. that’s so simple but so deep. That is such a good reminder that I’m not the one that needs to be puring myself out I need to let God pour me out into whatever he needs me to do. thanks for sharing.

  2. I think for me God uses anything and everything. I think like you songs have been used just as much as scripture. Sometimes when I am reading my devotional something will catch my eye too. I think its more about having an open heart and mind so that we can hear these things we much rather ignore. Pride is an ugly one. I am working on it also right now. I am trying to figure out how being proud of something I do can take a turn and end up prideful, if that makes sense.
