The Tears that Flow, or Not…

Study: On average, women spend 20,000 hours crying in their lifetime.

That seems a bit excessive.

I’ll be honest: I’m not much of a crier. In fact, most of my tears are generally reserved for episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and Folger’s Coffee commercials (like one where the son comes home Christmas morning and surprises his family). My mom, on the other hand, cries at the drop of a hat. And I mean, happy – sad – whatever.

Psalm 56:8 says, God keeps record of our tears in a bottle. So, I wonder if we all have a certain # of them. Is the number of tears a person cries as unique as the numbers of hairs on our heads? And I also wonder how many more tears I’d cry, if only I’d let myself. And how many more tears would each of us cry, if we felt safe to?

Hmm, just some randomness on a Wednesday.

  1. Folger’s Coffee commercials (like one where the son comes home Christmas morning and surprises his family).

I did that one year. Everyone thought I had to stay in Atlanta to work, but I drove up through the night after Christmas Eve service and walked in the door around 10am. Everyone was floored, but no tears :)

My mom, on the other hand, cries at the drop of a hat.

So does mine. I am not usually a fan of this trait.

  2. i used to NOT be a crier coz i learned to toughen up myself & numb emotions for a really long time (i’d only cry after watching rom-coms & friends) but that all changed when i hit 27. suddenly a “main pipe” broke inside my soul & all those years of not showing emotions caught up with me. NOW i cry almost over everything. and i LOVE IT! =] my son just shakes his head when i cry over silly commercials.

i think my tear ducts are making up for lost time ;)
